Bridget Jones is an artist working mainly in architectural glass to commission. Her designs weave together image, pattern, and colour, and often evolve from prints.
Born in Glasgow, she studied Zoology at Edinburgh University, and Leicester University, and worked as a zoologist in university teaching and museum education. A part time degree at Sunderland gave her the opportunity to return to making and creativity, and after graduating in 1988, set up a workshop in Newcastle.
She has worked on major commissions including the City Chambers, Edinburgh; Ripon Cathedral; and Arup, Central Square, Newcastle.
She has worked collaboratively with writers and other artists and as a lead artist. As well as artworks in glass she has also designed for stone, metal and textiles. Her practice includes printmaking on paper, and these have become integral to commissions.
In 2003, she was awarded an Arts Council Encore Bursary to engage in a personal exploration of the relationship between print and glass-which is ongoing.
Her glass workshop and print studio is situated in rural Northumberland.
